Yes, GNU/Linux Can Run on Playstation 5, But Don't Buy It, Learn From Sony's Past of Rootkit and PS3 Betrayal
Some geeks have managed to put GNU/Linux on the Playstation 5 (PS5), but don't get too excited. Playstation 3 was openly advertised as GNU/Linux-ready (or capable), but as soon as buyers exercised some control over their devices Sony changed its mind and it's probably already racing against the clock (or geeks) by remotely installing user-hostile patches on all PS5 devices.
If you want a powerful computer that can run GNU/Linux, then support some OEM that actively supports that and goes out of its way to ensure if not actively facilitate hardware compatibility.
Don't buy Sony. Sony's money will go into killer drones (cameras at the very least) and lethal missiles.
Playstation (5 or future number/s) appears to have beaten (death blow to) Microsoft. But that does not make Sony our "friend", it's just another sinister company that sues activists, peddles DRM, and even installs rootkits on people's computers (without notifying them).
Sony came into existence a year after nukes fell on Japan (end of World War II). Had Sony existed prior to 1946, it would probably go "full kamikaze" on 'your' devices.
Millions of Playstation 3 owners will never forget what Sony did to them. Younger people neither know nor remember; the rootkits scandal got memory-holed and Groklaw, which covered this a lot at the time, has since been sabotaged by scammers. █
