RightsCon Cancellation as a Data Point in a World Gone Astray
RightsCon should not even be controversial
So there's news and shock that RightsCon got canceled at very short notice. The official statement says (in its title): "A statement to our community about why RightsCon 2026 will not take place in Zambia" (large African country, plundered by China and Western nations for its natural resources; hardly a new issue).
We're trying to come up with some apolitical way to approach this subject, as we're not a political site and the access to health (USAID, HIV etc.) isn't a patent issue, not in this case anyway.
We are just saddened to see how world politics (superpowers' ambitions) impact Free software, sharing, and collaboration among well-meaning communities. We've just covered how the slop industry (basically a giant scam!) harms the sharing of code by or within the NHS. They don't care about health! Our diseases and suffering are becoming business to them!
Get well soon, Planet Earth. █
