Whistleblowers Needed: We Are Seeing Many Layoffs in Red Hat (Not Just in China), We Want to Know More
Earlier this year Red Hat laid off over 400 engineers; many of whom were Linux kernel hackers (developers). Some of them spoke about it in public. The mainstream media, however, did not. We broke this story because we are trusted by many (and a growing number of) whistleblowers.
Last week we learned about some people who said they had left Red Hat or are leaving Red Hat. We didn't name them, out of respect to their families and mental health. Some of them did or still do very important work for all of us who use GNU/Linux. Based on the wording/s, they didn't choose to leave; IBM pushed them out, as IBM had done for years already (Fedora is a ghost town due to that). Today I saw one more such departure and it had nothing to do with politics (e.g. China), so it's definitely starting to look like a pattern.
If any of our readers in IBM/Red Hat have information to pass to us, even on the strict condition of anonymity, you know where/how to reach us. We have a 100% source protection record. Messages can be encrypted. If you use a burner account, please no death threats (those go directly to the police and hours ago we spoke to Starmer's office; they are interested in protecting our work, which is extremely gratifying). █
