A Lot of Fake News About Microsoft's LinkedIn Today, Some Comes From Slopfarms, Some Relies on Those Slopfarms
MISINFORMATION BY SLOP
Microsoft's LinkedIn is in trouble. First, it'll be scuttled as a company; second, it looks possible about 10% (or close to 10%) of the workers are discarded, not 5%. Microsoft must be running out of patience, seeing profitability problems that cannot be tackled.
Today we see over 5 articles that wrongly assert only ~600 people in LinkedIn are losing their job. We've traced down this misinformation to slopfarms based in India [1, 2], 'hallucinating' (fabricating) claims. It didn't take long for other slopfarms to perpetuate those same falsehoods and we also saw some real (made by humans) articles repeating the lie. They say the layoffs impact about 600 people. This figure is for CALIFORNIA (CA) alone, it's based on what Microsoft claims in a WARN notice (in reality it's likely higher, as usual), and it doesn't include all the global staff, both outside this one state and outside the United States.
As usual, slopfarms make the Web a huge pile of garbage. This garbage can spread from garbage sites to non-garbage sites, so it's hard to keep the vicinity clean (or misinformation contained/constrained). █
