A century ago IBM literally worked for Hitler. It's a fact, albeit a suppressed or forgotten fact.
IBM got better at marketing or "perception management". Is the company benign after its monopoly abuse of past decades?
No.
IBM staff seems to participate in shutting down whistleblowers who speak of corruption and misconduct. Just days ago we said workers "Cannot Speak About IBM Wrongdoing" due to corporate-cultural changes. What's interesting is how the "Code of Censorship" (CoC) now exports this sort of culture (or disturbing phenomenon) from corporations to communities based around altruism and mutual trust, imposting NDAs on unpaid volunteers with plutocratic onus of libel litigation. Don't lose sight of that!
Apropos cover-up, there are more discussions this week about IBM layoffs, but IBM keeps totally mum. In recent hours we continue seeing an outflow of workers, e.g.:
IBM is super-secretive and generally "dodgy".
Don't trust a single "official" word from IBM.
The company lies to its own shareholders about future products, notably "quantum" (vapourware) this summer.
Diehard "fans" of IBM (or the few remaining loyalists who became millionaires because of the company) need to understand that there are consequences for IBM's actions. Those extend far beyond IBM itself. █
