done
and with that, a chapter in my life comes to an end. in an earlier post, I said that I would be graduating soon. and here we are! after a nice graduation ceremony, a rather fun party, and moving out of my dorm, I'm finally properly free. four years gone, just like that. how weird a feeling, to be without a place to belong again.
in that previous post, I talked about wearing my gown in my dorm room before moving out. that did not quite happen because of the hectic nature of the last few days. however, I did get lots of chances to say goodbyes and "this will not be our last goodbye"s to people. I'm glad to have had those chances.

Appreciating simple things: the humble candle warmer
When I was a teen, I liked buying incense from the alternative/hippie stores downtown. I burned it in my room, with the windows closed, and never gave a thought to what I was inhaling or what it might be doing to my lungs.
As a middle-aged person, I've given up on incense, but I have many, many scented candles. Some of these have a story: they were gifts, or were acquired on a trip or other memorable occasion.
Most are without provenance: I have utterly no recollection of how or when they were acquired. I suspect many households have this problem with coffee mugs. I seem to attract candles.

it would've been nice to have someone with me at the lake holding my towel waiting watching me swim

Technology and Free Software

IRIX, Vim and so
Today I has beein in an unusual situation. My most modern working computer is thold good SGI O2 (not counting my wife's AMD which I don't want to use). The important word is "working". The Blackbird is behind me, unconnected as it refuses to boot. Somewhere here is probably the RapsberryPi (1st generation, model B) which would work (maybe), if oly I will have a HDMI andb the Micro USB cable prepared (not usre about mu USB-C keyboard anyway...).
My phone can be used (I can confirm that it has no problems with the MNT v3 keuboard nor with the LEnove mini USB mouse) but the screen is small, the terminal has just some commands and there is no X11 nor Tcl/Tk. So I can't coutn this as a "working computer".

On Schmovement
"Schmovement" is a funny word for "fancy movement", especially in video games. Y'know, things like rail grinding, air dashes, rolls, propelling yourself with gun recoil, etc. It's closely related to the term "parkour", but a bit more general.
When I got my Switch 2 a year ago, the premier game was Mario Kart World, the most recent entry in the Mario Kart series. One of its major selling points (and "selling" is an apt word here, seeing as it goes for 80 USD where I live) was that players now have a lot more of these "schmovement" options while driving.

Dairy Denial and Complexities of Diet pt 2
I originally had a note titled Dairy Denial and Complexities of Diet where I described experiencing gout. It was no coincidence it was in a note that also mentioned dairy.
I went quite a while without dairy and I didn’t have any issues with pork or fish. It turns out that if I have heavy cream or milk and I’ve had any amount of pork or fish in the last day or so, I start to get symptoms of gout in my feet. It clears up with blueberries – provided I don’t consume them with any cream.
Curiously, cheese seems okay. I also haven’t had any signs of the bone pains that I described in the other note. Not sure about sour cream or yogurt. I don’t often consume those, either.
