Week of Microsoft Layoffs, Maybe Record-Breaking Scale
They will mislead about the scale.
In last night's Daily Links we included 3 stories about XBox, led by this article about the demise of XBox. The bottom line: "Xbox may survive as an app on your screen, but its soul as a console pioneer is quietly being left behind in the cloud."
That's what we've long said. They try to change what the brand "XBox" means, but XBox sales sank to new lows (who would want to buy an XBox amid all this uncertainty and sharp price hikes?), some XBox models are discontinued, and some studios cannot even wait for the "official" date. Likewise, some departments at Microsoft are being cut ahead of the "d-day", as we last noted last night. If the whispers are correct, then we can expect Microsoft's known media operatives to share some misleading but "official" numbers (of layoffs) later this week. Then lots of slopfarms and hacks will blindly repeat and spread those numbers. █
