  • Eye of the Beholder and Baldur’s Gate 3

    I recently finished Baldur’s Gate 3 and I really liked it. The story was good, characters were great and I like Forgotten Realms as an adventuring world. There was too much of it, but I still played through almost every side mission because they were real, interesting missions instead of ‘pick me ten blueberries’ or ‘deliver this letter to my neighbour’.

    After BG3 I wanted to play something shorter and picked up an old favourite, Eye of the Beholder, a dungeon crawl also set in the Forgotten Realms game world. I bought it immediately when it was ported to Amiga 500 at 1991, 35 years ago, and played it several times during the following decades. The Amiga version comes on three disks and I only have one functioning disk drive left. This time I wanted to avoid the disk swapping and “cheated” and so I’m playing the GOG DOSBox version on a modern computer, but the experience and performance of the game is still the same.

  • X (2022) is a god-awful movie

    X (2022) is a god-awful movie. It just is. I got it cheap. I was only interested in it for Brittany Snow, and boy, did it disappoint.

    Here's your spoiler warning. The movie is just a gore-fest. There is no fucking rhyme or reason for anything to happen in the film. Some small porn crew rents out a guest house in rural Texas from a couple that looks older than time itself. They really did their best to make the old couple revolting. Jenna Ortega's character is a "shy" girl that ends up going ahead with starring in the film despite being a boom mic grip. Ortega's boyfriend, R.J., is the cameraman/cinematographer/director and he takes Ortega's infidelity as well as a normal person: gets mad, upset, and defeated.

    So, I'm back — this is not a game update but a very helpful tutorial and notes for AI lovers. Although smolnet people don't like AI, I like it a lot (it's only my opinion).

    The model I'm using is Gemma 4 E4B as a daily driver for the past 2 days, and the backend engine I'm using is KoboldCPP (it lets you run small or big AI models based on your hardware).

    • I converted my txt files to gophermaps

      This is essentially just a test to see if the created gophermaps are correct, and whether the RSS feed is correctly recognized by the aggregators and generates the correct links.

      If everything is fine, the gophermaps are created from the raw text and put in their naming directory. After that the RSS feed is generated with the new link format.
