Cybershow on "Escaping Prisons For Your Mind"
Many attacks on the Free software community come from Google and GAFAM. We have documented many examples. Today there is this new article about "What is Software Freedom?" and more. Their advice for "re-taking control of your gadgets and devices":
...a good start is to ensure you have full control over your:
- Physical devices
- full disk encryption
- full control over cameras, microphones, battery etc.
- your choice of boot
- Operating system
- your choice of free, open software
- your choice of security settings
- your choice of applications
- Data
- stored locally and safely
- no "rights management" or encumbrances
Right now you can do that.
On social control media:
Consequently, even the most aggressive moves against digital polity like Digital Rights Management (DRM), Trusted Platform Modules, (TPM), DCMA and other laws which amount to state-backed private censorship have not dented the burgeoning movement of Software Freedom and growing rejection of US Big Tech in the slightest. Banning access to social media for under 16s now awakens a interest in digital rights for a new generation.
Social media is the main offering, a smelly old goat that we'll all cheer to watch burn. But that's just a warm up to the menagerie of feathered freaks and fatted calves ready to go into the Wicker Man. There are many things we should be glad to "sacrifice" to water the tree of liberty.
On "Technofascism" disguised as "Finlandisation":
Technofascism is a rotten culture that metastasises one "new normal" at a time. It's often marked by a single vendor who "wins a contract" and dominates with a tyrannical IT regime that touches every aspect of life for employees or students and is the iron rule and law in that land. In digital Finlandisation, which I discussed here, entire nation states fall under the hegemony of technocratic entities which remotely influence their politics and even the ideas that citizens are able to express.
Go have a read. They nail it. █
"As is now abundantly clear, we don't have a tech problem. We have an asshole problem. Bad tech brings out the asshole in people. Removing assholes from your life is therefore about eliminating the toxic tech made, promoted and used by assholes." -Cybershow today (front page)
