        I find it hard to clean. My room sits here in a state of eternal clutter and dustiness. Now, it's not like I don't WANT to have a clean and tidy room, I'd love having my laundry put away and an empty bin and space to move. I just find it hard to begin.

        I know that once I start I'll spiral into seemingly unrelated tasks my brain comes up with, noticing things in the wrong place and needing to set them right, ending up in a separate room sorting things there, realising something in the starting room could be done more efficiently if I take it all apart and start again.

        Allright I had a couple of hours exploring micropython on a handheld, limiting myself to only program it on device.

        This is truly a blast. It took me a bit of poking around but even without any deeper python experience I managed to write a command prompt that features some basic built in commands like ls, cd, mkdir, rm, rmdir and edit (edit calling the built in text editor on a file) as well as a program loader.

      • 2026 Old Computer challenge: Day 2

        Didn't have much time today as I had Work, but when I got home, I wrote a script to retrieve my follow requests on Fedi as a couple of people appear to have followed me since I started the challenge and I somehow need to approve them (that's the next step). Unfortunately, this meant I didn't get any music done again... I'm bad at this concentrating stuff, I think.

      • NeoGeo dev: Health bars and actual combat

        The project is slowly starting to feel like an actual game rather than a collection of independent technical experiments. The previous work on moving objects, path finding and towers now has something meaningful to interact with. I already see and kind of feel how firing rate, bullet damage and object spawn rate together with the tower range form a combined experience.

        The implementation is very Neo Geo friendly. Every object already occupies a sprite, so I simply extended it from one to two vertical sprite elements. The upper tile contains the object itself while the second tile shows one of sixteen different health bar graphics. This is cheap in terms of hardware resources and can later easily be replaced by separate overlay sprites if I decide that health bars should always render above everything else.
