Of course the GNOME "community" also has a "protected class", wherein abuses against women are totally tolerated. “Code of Conduct Committees” always protect the "monarchy" (corporations, sponsors).
Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is turning 38 next month (it is 10 years younger than Rianne) and netsplit.de still indicates growth across networks and a growth in the number of known networks. This index of IRC networks says: "There are 499 known IRC networks listed below..."

Upon entering our network we have always said that we have no “Code of Conduct”.
Funnily enough, those who would run afoul of a “Code of Conduct” (if we had one) are the ones that got banned/muted anyway; it was not because they were rude, it was because they had done illegal things.
A “Code of Conduct” is not a substitute for laws. In practice, communities online get along and collaborate just fine without having to issue threats to one another. █
