Red Hat Staff Needs to Start Looking for the Next Job
In its early days Red Hat was capitalising on the "Linux" hype. It used a lot of GNU, slapped a kernel on top of it (or below GNU), and made its system aimed at servers before the Internet/Web (or dotcom) bubble got its belated "reality check". In the stock market, the company that went by "LINUX" (sans one character) collapsed but RHT/RHAT stayed. Decades later it helped Microsoft attack computer users - a matter that remains unsolved - and half a decade later it got consumed by IBM (the acquisition advice came from IBM's current CEO).
Now that IBM is collapsing (it just had to happen) people who work at Red Hat need to remember they're just IBM staff; if "Linux" has a future but IBM hasn't, then that's a problem.
Workers can conveniently lie or deny it to themselves, but waves of PIPs ("silent layoffs") will sweep over more and more units or teams as the company runs out of money to play with.
So far this year Red Hat has had several waves of layoffs. The media, instead of writing about these layoffs, was too busy doing stenography for IBM - in service of "pump and dump".
The vapourware from IBM's leadership is deeply troubling. There went IBM's credibility that took over 100 years to build/earn. █
