Business idiots everywhere
I wish this was an isolated case, but unfortunately, journalists seem to have lost all their memory at the same time they lost their ethics. These idiots are allowed to say stupid shit like this on a regular basis, then contradict themselves without any consequence, and I guess this must be difficult to do while trying to look confortable with the press’ collective tongue up your ass.
Recently, Elon Musk (the fucking bumbling idiot that has spent the last decade+ - wait, after checking, a fucking quarter of a century, it seems - pestering us all with the idea of going to fucking Mars) apparently discovered how far Mars is. This fucken idiot is still the richest man on Earth, press still covering his stupidity with gleeful applause.

The Siren Song of DePIN
One of my coworkers is very interested in a Web3 project called "Midnight."^ Midnight is a sister project to Cardano, a blockchain built to focus on the smart contract and digital token aspects of cryptocurrencies rather than the value of the coin itself. All transactions on Cardano are public; Midnight provides a privacy layer that allows users to generate signatures proving they fulfilled the terms of a smart contract without disclosing the contract itself.
Midnight uses a proof-of-stake system, so the more Night coins are staked in a validator's node, the more payouts one receives, up to a hard limit. Payments are made in a secondary token called Dust, which are used to pay transaction fees, and Dust can be rented to other Night holders to cover their fees. That's where my coworker's interest comes from: he wants to receive as much dust as he reasonably can, so that if the network takes off, he can rent dust to others and generate passive income.

Re: i was corrected on the internet about my inefficient use of awk today
My departure from Windows happened way back when Win95 was released. My parents bough a new computer and I got the old one. Some friends and I went to a computer convention and came home with a box of 3.5 inch floppies with Slackware's base install on them and I never looked back. Going from Windows 3.11 to a terminal definitely set my trajectory as a computer nerd.

* Gemini (Primer) links can be opened using Gemini software. It's like the World Wide Web but a lot lighter.
