    I found some trash in my guitar case. I first thought it was some random piece of wrapping, then I saw that it was the wrapping for some batteries. then, I remembered it all: the batteries were for my pedal, and the wrapping was because I couldn't find a place to put it during the concert.

    the concert was one and a half years ago. this piece of junk has been sitting in my guitar case for all that time. waiting for me to pick it and let it go. me, being busy with school and exchange, with research and all other menial tasks of life, forgot to clean it up. until now.

  • How I read books

    Until a few years ago, I read books “the normal way,” which meant choosing a book, reading it to the end, and moving to the next. Occasionally I would abandon a book, but only after agonizing over it for several nights. Books for school or work didn’t count; I always had one — and only one — book that I was reading for myself.

    The way I read books has shifted gradually, but has crystallized into something that feels idiosyncratic. I now read books chaotically; when I find time to read I pick up whatever appeals to me at that moment. I’m only called upon to explicitly give up on some work when it’s due at the library, otherwise I simply abandon a book through neglect, when I’ve forgotten that I’d been reading it (this doesn’t happen often). I tend to have 3–5 books in rotation, but there’s no rule about that. I instead make an effort to have a mix of fiction and non-fiction, and at least one story that’s “easy to read” along with something more “literary.”

  • The Boss Baby (2017)

    Great opening ~20 minutes but settled into watchable. I was hoping for some proper Calvin & Hobbes style ambiguity but we are offered the option of believing it was all a dream. If it was, that’s lazy. If it wasn’t, it would have been nice to keep alive the possibility that we were seeing real mundane events filtered through imagination. That’s the Calvin approach. But in the not-a-dream option, the events were assuredly zany, fixed only with a magic mind wipe. This could have been legendary if the baby might have been Tyler Durden all along.

    Since I didn't manage to create any music and ended up spending a lot of my time working on my Fedi scripts, I thought it best to clean them up and publish them (finally) so I have something to show for the week.
