State of the Invidious Project
My wife relies on the Invidious project all day long, almost literally. It's like television to her. She knows when all the known instances are down/inaccessible (frustration). To me, it is a way to access YouTube "content" that people send my way.
A lot of people still look for information about what happened to Invidious. Many people still visit our site - even very old articles and videos we produced 3 years ago - because they want to understand what YouTube (Google, Alphabet, GAFAM) did and still does to Invidious at two levels: 1) the code/project (compatibility) and 2) pertinent instances (installations) of Invidious or the platforms/networks they're on.
A widely known instance of Invidious, yewtu.be, is not reliable anymore. Sometimes it works, sometimes it is inaccessible, sometimes it only partly (or temporarily) works.
But Invidious is decentralised! This means that when one giant falls down others can emerge to fill the gap or inherit users.
As of 2026, Invidious is still alive. To us, inv.nadeko.net seems like the most reliable instance. We wrote about it earlier this month.
Being a pessimist, I didn't think Invidious would survive this long. In 2023 when YouTube was going through changes (and a death) it was really cracking down very hard on Invidious.
Never forget how hostile Google can be towards freedom. And don't take for granted those who fight back and resist. █
