Why Techrights Will Still be Active a Decade From Now
Last night and the night before that the birds were staying here until almost 9PM, then showing up again well before 6AM the following day, even in August (longest day is around June 21st). The term "early birds" seems applicable. When they wake up they come here. Months ago they were showing up at the roof by the dozens as early as 4AM. There were barely even prospects of us feeding them so early, not much light either.
I'm the same in the sense that when I wake up I am always quite excited to start working (or resuming work) on the sites. I've been doing this for over 20 years and it never felt like a chore (Tom's Hardware has just celebrated its 30-year anniversary; it no longer depends on Tom). Two decades ago I worked part time at the university in order to pay bills, but my main aim was to carry on writing and reading, curating links etc. Not much has changed since then, but the audience grew a lot. Audience means impact and impact leads to abuses against oneself.
3 months from now this site turns 20 and it seems certain we can carry on for many years to come, as we have many whistleblowers, self-tailored software tools, and thousands of stories already in the making (they need tidying up, some are literally in paper form).
People who wish death upon us and even send death threats only prove that we are effective. As such, they prove the importance of what we do.
Techrights knows its rights. Techrights will use its rights. Techrights will carry on for many years to come. █
