ASUS makes reasonable durable hardware (in my personal experience), but ASUS also pays to promote its "NUCs" and nuke "Linux tills" in favour of spyware built on top of Gentoo (ChromeOS).

That The Register MS did not take money to publish yet another promotion of slop (basically a pyramid scheme) is an improvement, but the above sort of comes across as Linux bashing for a company looking to sell something that is spyware and ushers in more spyware: "The first decision was to build on the Google Chrome ecosystem already in use elsewhere in the business [...] Toolstation's rollout was more than a swap from one physical box to another. The ASUS NUC was configured to run ChromeOS Flex, fitting into a wider Google environment the retailer had already adopted: Google Workspace, Chromebooks in contact centers and ChromeOS tablets in warehouses, yards and on the road."

All of those things are proprietary GAFAMware. █
