Chatbots/LLMs Are the Next "Clown Computing", Pure Hype, a Serious Mistake
Letting others (companies trillions of dollars in debt) "talk" for you or store your valued data is suicidal
So it's 5PM on Friday, which means end of the "First Week of [Our] Domestic Vacation" (but the start of 2.5 weeks more). We've managed to keep abreast of news and also publish some original articles (despite being away much of the time) and it seems like the hype surrounding slop is dying down a bit. Its overall "volume" - not the news volume in general - has decreased somewhat. Has the marketing (hype) budget run out? Another high-profile slop executive has quit ahead of the big exit.
Programs that scan text and emit something similar (but full of errors) are not innovation. Pretending that this stuff boils down to innovation (it is just brute-force plagiarism) is pure hype. This storytelling twists severe business problems (out-of-control losses) as "investment" in something something "hey hi" something something . Prior to that we had the "clown computing" and JWZ has just commented on "Clown Storage" at PBS. It foolishly outsourced its data to some other company. Now this data is dead. Live and learn.
Don't be easily carried away or persuaded by hype. There's nothing wrong with you if you don't surrender to what GAFAM-funded media declares to be "the future". The "target audience" is likely executives; they want your bosses to impose on you utter crackpot stuff. You're forced to "like" it (or pretend that you do). █
