  • new season

    A weekend of clean up and work.

    As I party during the week, my weekends are a perfect time for work, a good time to focus.

    The theater troupe met yesterday.

    A few drinks, banana bread, checking in where we are at.

    We decided to do a smaller production this year. Six actors, a smaller venue, reusing some content from a previous play. I was asked if I wanted to act this year. I like the idea, I haven't acted in the last couple plays as I directed.

  • Did I inadvertently unlock someone else's car doors?

    I went out to get Bunny and I some lunch, and as I was leaving, as I used my fob to pop open the trunk to store the food for the trip home, I noticed that a car near my own honked briefly and flash its headlights. Odd, I thought. I then used my fob to unlock the car, and again, the nearby car honked briefly and flashed its headlights. I then used my fob to lock my car, but this time, the nearby car sat silent. I unlocked my car again, and again, the nearby car honked and flashed its lights.

  • Pine forest

    The forest seems quiet, until you really stop and listen. The hum of insects, the chits and warbles of birds, and the scampering of small mammals in the undergrowth all coalesce into a sustained ambiance.

    There are few insects today. The sky is cloudy, but the sun feels warm. The occasional breeze causes the trees to shiver and rustle like an ocean of green. I sit in a rocking chair, thinking and reading, and thinking some more. A stray raindrop or two hit my skin. The clouds, heavy with moisture, are moving on, and it will not truly rain today.

    Life really is like a CYOA. Only you have virtually infinite possibilities, and they're not at all obvious. You don't get a nice list like "keep your present job" and "try selling tamales". But we do have to make choices every step of the way.

    The biggest difference with CYOAs, is that here you have to keep some form of energy accounting. When you have a choice in front of you, you have to factor how much energy each option needs. There are some choices that almost require no energy (keep doomscrolling for another hour) and some that require you to spend some more energy that you may or may not afford (write a blog post, read a book). You have to factor not only how much energy you have available, but the time over which you will have to use that energy, and whether your body is able to run on that energy budget for the time it requires for that action to be effective.

      I've finally gotten around to executing the next step of my solar-powered gemini server experiment. I've been slacking because the water-tight container I'd sourced was too small to contain all of the components.

      Well, today I decided that, rather than ordering a new one from Aliexpress, I could just use an old tupperware container with a rubber gasket.
