Last night: IBM May be Sued for Mass Layoffs Via PIPs
In 2019 the company where I worked pulled off several PIP equivalents to demoralise staff. It worked. Many people stopped giving a damn, they began just "milking" the company instead. Some colleagues were faking productivity, or gamed metrics if feasible. Prior to that some experienced so much stress that they said it caused them diarrhoea.
PIPs doom companies. If that is their goal, then bravo! Success!
Several years later IBM seems to have no future anymore:

False pretence for offshoring. At IBM, as someone explained over the weekend: "Train the recent hire = train your replacement" (due to salary, nothing else).
IBM has already lost its collective spirit. This is akin to quiet quitters, basically 'milking the company' where morale is low and there's no loyalty anymore. This is new:
At GAFAM all they do at this point is ride the debt wagon. They basically test how much longer their employer can borrow money to pay salaries, knowing it won't last long. Then they become "lifers" █
