    hey everybody, autumn is here! i think? it kind of snuck up on me. we've gone straight from Heatwave to a 12C minimum and 22C maximum temperature, cool and rainy. it's been a couple of such days already and it doesn't seem like much will change in the next two weeks so maybe? autumn? it's taken a while for the house to cool down, then i was finally getting some sleep after a whole summer of bad nights, seems like i still can't get quite enough of it. indoors it's still rarely tshirt weather, and i've only worn long pants outside once (today!) i'm easing into it mentally. maybe real autumn starts Now (what with the long pants)? i accept, welcome to the good season! looking forward to the sub-seasons of "back to school", "harvest", and "ancestors" :)

    I was thinking yesterday how much this space reminds me of the way the internet used to be. That thought led me to nostalgia for my old blog, which I'd thought was lost but has been mostly preserved by the Internet Archive. I found this post from February 2002...

    I like this path-optimisation word game, and it occasionally gets players, but the one-game-per-day schedule was too fast for the tiny playerbase. It's most interesting when you're competing with others on a single puzzle, and the chances of two players coming along within the same day are small. Now, a puzzle stays up until it's been 48h since the last change to who is winning. Perhaps this model could make sense for other less-popular daily games in Geminispace. They can't all be Spellbindings.

      I do put "my email" in geminispace and on the open web and make no effort to obfuscate it.

      Why did I use quotes above? I have a lot of email addresses: definitely dozens, and probably over a hundred.

      In my view, the trick to being fearless with your email address is being able to sunset it with no impact or little impact.

      So: a unique email address for almost every different use, and certainly for every service signup.

      If web01@sarnart.dev (my posted email on smol.pub and my website) gets compromised, starts receiving spam, or stops serving my needs in any way, that email address will quickly get retired and replaced.

    • Restructuring and a new feed

      Okay, my gemsite had too many logs and it became annoying, always having to decide if this is a whisper, a scream, a mumble or anything else. So I have boiled it down to 3 logs.

    • Smol wins

      My smol space now points directly to a domain I own. The fact that it works has made me happier than is reasonable. Hurrah!
