No Allure in Omarchy, the Political Hyenas Only Give it More Free Publicity
Omarchy is being discussed a lot this week (more so over the past weekend and last week). For good reasons. Or not. It's about money. The focus is on politics though and it's very divisive.
To me, Omarchy seems like a weak project because of the slop (an HR problem), set aside the politics. I don't think it's attacked because of jealousy, I think it's more about groupthink (some call this "virtue-signalling") in social control media more than anything else.
Omarchy does not interest me for many other reasons, though some people I respect like Jack Wallen kind of fancy it, based on hands-on experience.
The very fact we talk about Omarchy in Techrights (not just the sister site) means that Omarchy bashing has an opposite effect - opposite of what the bashers intended.
Before the slopfest, DHH tried to market or brand this distro as a devs' thing, a gamers' thing, and maybe lost momentum. For months it was lost in a mist (of other distros).
Then came the wave of criticism and this is Distrowatch today:
I am sort of amused to see Miguel de Icaza and his ilk "hating" on Omarchy using utterly immature language that lacks real substance. Hey, it's not like de Icaza is a good person. He values freedom like his friend's - the one who avails himself to strangle women, then tries to strangle critics.
The people who speak loudly against Omarchy aren't purists and aren't pure. They have a different "flavour" of distasteful. I saw Red Hat staff in Germany protesting, perhaps not realising that their own company is controlled by billionaires and their employer literally worked for Hitler (in Germany and its death camps in Poland). █
