The "No Pain No Gain" Expectations in Publishing
Sometimes truth hurts; but that does not mean it mustn't be told

Publishing is something I've done since I was a teenager. Professionally, as a freelance journalist, I've done this for over 2 decades. Here in this site I only ever write freely, independently, on a pro bono basis.
It's a very common saying: if you don't hurt some company's feelings (or some government's feelings), then you're likely making no difference or you only ever post mindless fluff (or flattery or mere parroting of their lies). Organisations do not have feelings per se; their staff does. Something you say about a company can cause its faithful footsoldiers to try to censor and/or insult you.
When this happens, even if it causes some pain, discomfort or considerable cost, then it means you're effective. It means the writings (or videos or caricatures or whatever) have a true impact and this impact financially hurts someone (or someone's ego/feelings).
Writers who are too afraid to "hurt feelings" will never do any meaningful work. █
