Microsoft Lab Leader Leaves the Company, Olympic Committee at Risk of Microsoft Influence

Summary: Reed Sturtevant says goodbye, but Microsoft inside-trader might enter USOC

WE recently added a list of major Microsoft departures to the site's Wiki. There is another new addition to it, namely the head of a large research group in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He is leaving after only two years inside the company. From the Boston press:

Two years after being hired by Microsoft Corp. to head a laboratory in Cambridge, Massachusetts tech industry veteran Reed Sturtevant has left the company, as Microsoft restructures its research operations.

More from the same publication, amongst others, can be found out there.

Over in Seattle (Microsoft 'press'), "reorg" is blamed for it. "Reorg" is how Microsoft typically spins such disasters, when the agents of Waggener Edstrom are not quite around or not a reasonable source to outsource "damage control" to.

Reed Sturtevant, who led Microsoft's Startup Labs in Cambridge, Mass., has left the company after his team was reorganized this week.

As a secondary note, also in the Seattle press we have identified this danger of Microsoft gaining influence inside USOC, the United States Olympic Committee.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Tribune's Phil Hersh reports that Robert Bach, president of Microsoft's entertainment and devices division (think Xbox), is a rumored favorite candidate for the spot Streeter vacated on the USOC's nine-menber board when she took over as CEO.

We wrote about Microsoft and the Olympics just a week ago. Microsoft excluded GNU/Linux from watching the games in China [1, 2, 3]. Moreover, Robert Bach is one who was accused of inside-trading [1, 2]. Can he be trusted?
