Big Polluter (BP) and GNU/Linux Migration

BP logo as XP

Summary: International Business Times (IBTimes) says that the demise of BP -- caused in part by Windows blue screens of death (BSODs) -- may be related to the new push towards GNU/Linux in Britain

Last month we stated that a Microsoft Windows BSOD prevented the Deepwater Horizon disaster from being prevented and a few days later we asked whether BP has already abandoned Windows, despite Bill Gates being one of its financial backers [1, 2, 3] (Gates is backing both Windows and BP).

According to this new report from IBTimes:

Switching from Windows to Linux PC's; a response to the BP oil spill?

Linux is being pushed as an alternative to Windows XP in the Government's hard push towards spending cuts in the public sector, ie. Government offices. However is the idea a response to the BP oil spill which saw millions of pounds wiped off the value of British shareholders and pensioners investments and savings?

The change could wipe out the american corporation's software from 10,000 or 100,000+ PC's, along with changes in hardware partners such as HP who manufacture the Printers that go along together with the operating system.

It was only yesterday that we wrote about the British government needing to move away from Windows, having written a lot more about it in recent weeks [1, 2]. BP reported a loss of almost $20 billion; had Windows not been throwing the alarm system into a blue screen of death, a lot of this disaster would possibly be averted.
