A FEW hours ago Microsoft and Canonical made a sort of joint announcement promoting Microsoft's proprietary software (see the the second comment here if you think .NET is now "Open Source"). As we noted several times in recent years, e.g. here and here, Canonical quit promoting GNU/Linux. Nowadays it's just pushing "clown" and Microsoft; it's all about trying to generate revenue, not emancipating computer users.

Maybe in the next 5 years Ubuntu will be just some 'niche' or legacy distro; as long as other GNU/Linux distros take its place, we'll be fine. It signed its own death sentence or got a ticket for the funeral the moment Mark Shuttleworth (MS) started shilling Azure about a decade ago while closing bug #1 (not even bothering to fix it) [1, 2].
Canonical is working for Microsoft and Microsoft didn't even buy Canonical! It's frustrating when you spend years if not decades helping such companies and then they go around your back to help your enemies. Canonical should submit antitrust complaints over Microsoft blocking Linux, not work with the abuser. Canonical's opportunistic partnerships are a shot in its own foot. It cost a lot in terms of Canonical's manpower; in the past Canonical had a real community and thus volunteers. ⬆
