Traffic in Social Control Media is Fake, Based on Whistleblowers Too

Summary: Whistleblowers from Facebook, Twitter and maybe more companies to come have revealed information of interest to the general public and it's hard to simply discredit such high-profile staff; one foregone conclusion is that these companies are misleading their own users and are well aware of that

EARLY this morning we published an article about YouTube faking its numbers, just like Twitter does (or turns a blind eye when people game their numbers). It helps mislead shareholders (investors), compelling them to keep pouring more money into a failing, losing (no financial gain) venture, based on a misguided sense of future potential.

"People who wish to have true impact on the Web should diversify (the Web is a shrinking platform) and host their own stuff. Try more protocols. Gemini is easy to self-host, even from one's own home."Less than a week ago a high-level Twitter executive, who had been fired, blew the whistle. While the focus of his revelations is partly political and not relevant to our focus on rotting 'social' media, part of what he said affirms what we've repeatedly said in recent months. It seems like a huge issue not just in Twitter but also its competitors (probably TikTok as well). The bottom line is, people should simply assume that all these platforms lie to users about reach, engagement etc. They try to keep them "hooked" based on a fictional status or sense of importance/popularity.

People who wish to have true impact on the Web should diversify (the Web is a shrinking platform) and host their own stuff. Try more protocols. Gemini is easy to self-host, even from one's own home. It won't be addictive, no 'gamification' in it, but overall it's long-lasting and not subjected to censorship that aggravates over time (Twitter and YouTube both became more overzealous and censorious over the years).
