Well, it scares them that people might find out the full scale of the layoffs and eventually discover that Microsoft has been lying since January

Summary: As the news trickles in this morning [1, 2] regarding yet more Microsoft layoffs it's important to remind ourselves that the scale is higher than reported (some media now says "1,000", but that's distorting what insiders said; they said over 1,000) and when asked for clarifications the company is evasive; it didn't even share the numbers with its own managers!
