Perl vs. Python flame war?

I am away from Pixar and am not reading the lists. Personal
mail will get to me. What's this about a Perl v. Python flame
war on the lists? Please make sure it is toned down.

If the responsible parties will submit arguments to me,
without a ton of follow-ups, please, I will make a policy
decision regarding postinst script interpreters. For now,
if bash will do please use it - perl or anything else should
only be used when pre or post-inst is non-trivial.

Ian J., should packages with perl preinst scripts pre-depend
on perl?
