The debian-private mailing list leak, part 1. Volunteers have complained about Blackmail. Lynchings. Character assassination. Defamation. Cyberbullying. Volunteers who gave many years of their lives are picked out at random for cruel social experiments. The former DPL's girlfriend Molly de Blanc is given volunteers to experiment on for her crazy talks. These volunteers never consented to be used like lab rats. We don't either. debian-private can no longer be a safe space for the cabal. Let these monsters have nowhere to hide. Volunteers are not disposable. We stand with the victims.

/opt and non-free

This is a suggestion for 2.0, maybe a provocation :-)

FHS is near to go released soon, and then (if we decide to follow it) we
will have the possibility to put packages under /opt .
There will be /etc/opt, /var/opt and /opt/<pkg>, while the subdirs
/opt/bin, /opt/man, /opt/lib, /opt/doc, etc., will contain only 
wrappers or links to /opt/<pkg>/...

Thus we will have a great place where to install packages that we don't
think they belong to the Debian Gnu/Linux OS, like those in non-free,
contrib (partially) and user contributed ones.

Actually our feelings about non-free software are "visible" only on the
ftp site or on CDs; why don't make clear this distinction even in the
installed machines?

This could be an occasion to stronger the idea of Debian as a Free
Software only system, without throwing away all those good things we
have in non-free, or even commercial packages (supplied by others,
obviously).

Note that this change shouldn't need any change to current dpkg-*
utilities (but maybe in debmake), we need only to resentence the policy
manual (thing that is on work anyway).
