Where to begin? This past week or so the world learned that "extremism_researcher_Joan_Donovan" is accusing Facebook of "Pressuring Harvard to Fire" her, according to how Futurism framed it (we linked to the original, seminal page last weekend). Mark Zuckerberg is bribing, as usual, via his wife's bogus 'charity'. So much for "philanthropy". "Beginning in 2018," CNN_wrote, "Donovan worked for the Shorenstein Center at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government" and she says "she was pushed out of her job after college faced pressure from Facebook..." "Joan Donovan, a leading scholar of online-disinformation campaigns, is going public about why she believes she was recently forced out," the_Chronicle_Of Higher_Education_said (we had more links about this in our bi-daily News Roundups). Remember that the same so-called "philanthropy" sponsors some Python projects and programming-related organisations. It is a force of corrupting influence. There are strings attached, including obligatory thank-yous. Microsoft, which fancies_NDAs_not_just_for_employees_and_clients (to silence them, to prevent criticism), does many of the same things. In 2019, i.e. nearly half a decade ago, Bill Gates - albeit through his fake "philanthropy" - compelled my_boss to sign an NDA [1, 2, 3] and apparently_he_does_that_a_lot_at a_colossal_scale. How deep do these scandals go and who will be found culpable or held accountable? We seem to live in a world where accountability for the rich and well-connected barely exists anymore. They control (bribe) "our" politicians, who will never prosecute them. █ ⢀⣀⣀⠀⡀⣀⢀⣀⣀⢀⣀⣀⣀⣀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣠⠀⡤⡄⠀ ⠈⠙⠛⠀⠀⠛⠘⠘⠛⠘⡋⠙⢃⣛⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠼⠸⠾⠿⠀⠀⠀⠠⠰⠖⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠄⠄⠂⠀⠂⠒⠐⠂⠂⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠰⠐⠴⠀⠀⠄⠠⠄⠀⠀⠂⠰⠀⠀⠒⠒⠒⠠⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠒⠒⠀⠀⠀⢸⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡇⠀⠀⠀ ⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⡀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⡀⡀⣀⠀⣀⣀⣀⣀⢀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀⣀ ⡟⠛⠛⠋⠛⠿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡄⠀⠀⣠⣾⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣷⠓⡿⢸⣿⢻⡿⣿⢨⡏⣿⡏⢱⡮⣻⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⠀⠀⠀⢠⣄⣀⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣤⣴⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡿⣿⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣪⣇⣼⣽⣾⣧⣿⣾⣷⣿⣰⣾⣾⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⠀⠀⣠⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣭⣭⣾⣿⣧⣴⣶⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡿⣿⣿⣿⡿⣿⣿⢿⣟⣿⣩⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⠃⠀⢉⠙⠻⠛⠛⠛⠋⠁⠀⢻⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡿⠿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣽⢯⣿⣿⣷⣿⣾⡿⣾⣿⣷⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⠀⠑⠀⠄⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣸⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠿⣯⡻⠿⠟⠀⠠⣬⣿⡿⠟⠛⠛⠟⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠿⣻⠍⢗⢲⠒⡒⣩⣿⣿⣿⣿⠿⠉⠉⠙⠻⢿⣿⣿⣿⣇⠸⠛⠛⠻⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡟⠛ ⠀⢠⡀⡄⢀⠀⠀⡀⡀⣀⣰⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣟⡀⢀⡀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠈⠙⣿⠝⢿⣿⡿⠵⠓⢁⡤⠒⠒⠲⠶⣼⡿⠛⠉⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠈⠛⠿⠈⠀⠰⠾⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣦ ⠀⠀⠑⠇⠧⠅⠷⠱⠃⠿⠿⠿⠻⠿⠿⠿⢿⣿⣿⡿⠿⠆⠷⠇⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⢠⢼⡄⠈⡙⠌⠁⣰⠿⡇⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠙⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠙⠻⠿⠟⠛⠉⠁ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠉⠉⠆⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠉⠁⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶⣶ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⡟⠟⡿⢿⠿⡿⠿⣿⣟⢿⡿⠛⡿⢿⢻⠻⣿⣿⢿⠟⣿⡻⢿⠿⢿⣿⢿⢿⡿⠿⣿⣿⣿⡿⠿⡟⢿⠿⡿⠟⣿⡿⡿⠻⡟⢿⣿⠿⢿⡿⣿⠟⠻⠿⠿⣿⣿⣿⣟⢟⠿⡟⡛⡟⠿⠻⠛⠿⠿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⡷⡷⣶⣾⣾⡶⣾⣾⣷⡾⣶⣶⣷⣶⡾⡶⣿⣷⣶⣶⢿⣷⣶⣶⣿⡿⣶⣶⣶⢶⢿⣿⣿⣷⡶⣷⣷⣶⣶⠶⠾⢺⣶⡶⣷⣿⢿⢾⣾⣿⣷⣷⣶⢾⣷⢿⢿⣴⣷⣶⡾⣾⠶⣷⣿⣶⣶⣶⣶⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣧⣥⣮⣿⣬⣤⣷⣵⣤⣧⣿⣤⣼⣿⣯⣥⣿⣽⣧⣧⣵⣽⣽⣾⣼⣧⣵⣼⣧⣼⣼⣿⣯⣬⣴⣿⣴⣤⣽⣶⣶⣼⣿⣼⣽⣤⣥⣴⣽⣤⣧⣶⣧⣮⣤⣼⣮⣿⣤⣤⣴⣽⣤⣦⣦⣦⣧⣿⣼⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⡟⠛⠛⠛⠉⠙⠛⠋⠉⠉⠉⠉⠉⠉⠉⠉⠉⠉⠉⠉⠉⢽⣯⡿⢭⣿⠉⠉⠉⠉⠉⣿⣿⢻⢿⢻⡿⢻⠛⠻⢛⢿⢿⡟⡿⠻⡛⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⡇⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣿⣿⣩⣟⣻⣿⣟⣻⣹⣯⣯⣯⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⡇⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣿⣿⣿⣿⢿⣿⡿⣿⣿⢿⣿⡿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⡇⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⢐⣿⣾⣿⣶⡀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣿⣿⢶⢿⢷⢷⡿⣾⠶⡿⡾⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⡇⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠾⣏⣿⣿⣌⠛⠄⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⡇⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠐⢺⢽⣿⣿⣿⣷⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣿⣿⣬⣭⣽⣽⣼⣮⣿⣭⡼⣭⣥⡽⣮⣯⣯⣷⣭⣽⣼⣼⣹⣼⣽⣽⣭⣧⣧⣤⣭⣷⣧⣭⣭⣭⣹⣴⣭⢾⣥⣥⣭⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⡇⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠋⠹⢿⣿⣿⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣿⣿⣾⣶⣶⣾⣾⣿⣿⣾⣿⣶⣾⣷⣾⣷⣶⣶⣾⣼⣶⣶⣶⣷⣾⣾⣿⣾⣷⣶⣶⣶⣶⣷⣾⣿⣾⣾⣾⣶⣶⣶⣾⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⡇⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⢤⣤⣶⠿⠋⠀⠀⡀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣿⣿⣉⣿⣿⣿⣛⣟⣝⣻⣻⣿⣭⣟⣯⣿⣿⣻⣿⣿⣟⣟⣏⣟⣛⣿⣟⣿⣟⣿⣿⣿⣻⣿⣻⣹⣛⣟⣿⣻⣻⣻⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⡇⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠈⠉⠀⠀⠀⠀⢀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣿⣿⠿⢿⣿⢿⠿⢿⠿⡿⢿⢿⣿⣿⣿⢿⢿⣿⡿⣿⢿⢿⢿⡿⣿⡿⣿⡿⠿⣿⢿⢿⡿⣿⢿⡿⣿⢿⡿⣿⡿⣿⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⡇⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⣿⣿⢿⣿⣻⡿⣻⢿⡻⣿⡷⣿⠷⢿⡿⠿⠟⣿⢛⣿⣿⣟⢿⢿⠾⣿⢿⢿⢿⣻⠻⣿⡷⣿⠿⣿⢿⣟⡻⠟⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣧⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣤⣿⣿⣻⣻⣛⣯⣻⣟⣟⣿⣹⣻⣟⣯⣻⣹⣙⣿⣙⣿⣟⣻⣿⣻⣟⣹⣻⣽⣫⣉⣟⣿⣻⣻⣹⣿⣟⣿⣻⣿⣿⣋⣿⣟⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣼⣿⣼⣷⣶⣯⣽⣽⣭⣽⣿⣯⣭⣯⣽⣿⣧⣽⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⡟⢟⡟⡿⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⢿⣿⣿⢿⡟⣿⢿⣿⡿⣿⢻⣿⡿⡿⡿⡿⣿⠿⡟⣿⢿⣿⢿⡿⣿⢿⣿⡿⡟⣿⢻⣿⡿⡿⡿⣿⣿⢿⣿⣟⣿⡿⣿⡟⣿⡿⡿⢿⣿⡟⣿⢿⡟⢟⣿⢻⢿⣿⣿⢿⢿⢿⡿⢿⣻⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣟⣿⣿⣙⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣏⣟⣿⣯⣿⣿⣻⣿⣻⣿⣹⣿⣝⣻⣿⣻⣿⣙⣟⣿⣻⣻⣿⣯⣛⣿⣟⣿⣛⣏⣟⣿⣿⣿⣯⣛⣟⣻⣿⣟⣟⣛⣝⣯⣟⣿⣿⣿⣻⣏⣿⣹⣿⣻⣟⣟⣻⣿⣟⣿⣟⣟⣻⣻⣟⣻⣿⣿⣿ ⣯⣯⣿⣿⣽⣧⣽⣯⣿⣭⣯⣿⣯⣯⣽⣯⣿⣿⣭⣿⣿⣽⣼⣽⣿⣿⣿⣽⣼⣽⣽⣿⣼⣽⣿⣿⣿⣿⣯⣿⣿⣽⣿⣽⣽⣯⣯⣿⣧⣽⣯⣽⣯⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣟⣻⣿⣻⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡻⣻⣛⣻⣟⣿⣻⣿⡟⢻⣻⣻⣿⣟⣟⣻⢿⣟⣻⣛⣟⣿⣟⣿⣿⣛⣛⣻⣛⣿⣻⣟⣿⣟⣻⣛⣻⣿⣟⣻⣻⣛⣿⣿⣛⣟⡿⣿⡛⣿⣟⣛⣻⣟⣟⢛⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣻⣹⣻⣻⣻⣟⣹⣟⣿⣻⣿⣩⣿⣟⣟⣿⣿⣿⣹⣟⣿⣿⣻⣻⣻⣟⣹⣻⣿⣹⣏⣿⣛⣹⣋⣿⣿⣿⣿⣻⣯⣻⣟⣙⣿⣿⣛⣏⣿⣿⣿⣝⣿⣿⣻⣿⣹⣋⣟⣙⣛⣯⣟⣿⣟⣿⣿⣻⣛⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ⣧⣿⣿⣯⣿⣼⣾⣽⣿⣿⣯⣿⣿⣽⣮⣿⣭⣽⣯⣧⣿⣯⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣽⣿⣽⣿⣯⣯⣽⣿⣽⣼⣿⣽⣽⣽⣽⣿⣿⣿⣽⣿⣿⣯⣯⣿⣼⣯⣿⣽⣽⣯⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿ ䷩ 𝚕𝚒𝚗𝚎 667 ╒═══════════════════ 𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐋𝐄 ═════════════════════════════════════════════════╕ (ℹ) Images, hyperlinks and comments at https://news.techrights.org/n/2023/12/06/The_Myth_of_an_Aging_or_Dying_GNU_Linux_Leadership.shtml Gemini version at gemini://gemini.techrights.org/n/2023/12/06/The_Myth_of_an_Aging_or_Dying_GNU_Linux_Leadership.gmi ⠀⌧ █▇▆▅▄▃▂▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁ The Myth of an Aging (or Dying) GNU/Linux Leadership⠀▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▂▃▄▅▆▇█ ⌧ posted by Roy Schestowitz on Dec 06, 2023, updated Dec 06, 2023 Self-fulfilling prophecies as a tactic? The_corporate_media_likes_to_cause_a_panic_about_most_kernel and GNU_developers being_"old" (rather than experienced) in an effort to promote corporate "shakeups" if not coups. It's a casual smear or "theme". That's rather funny given how that same media condemns and lectures us about the evils of "ageism" (the Linux_Foundation does this lecturing but engages_in_grotesque_ageism). If "ageism" is that bad, dear media, then swallow your own pill. By some people's standards, I (at 41) am "old" and need to step aside already. Maybe for being some "evil old man"... The projection tactics and hypocrisy are profound. Guess how old the owners of that media are... █ “Well enough for old folks to rise early, because they have done so many mean things all their lives they can`t sleep anyhow.” --Mark Twain It just looks at the brand as an opportunity to make money, usually by openwashing proprietary stuff or proprietary giants (companies). Does the above screenshot demonstrate well enough what they've done to LINUX.COM? Maybe in another universe, just maybe, the Linux Foundation actually uses Linux and cares about Linux. Back when I made the_initial_wingolog_design, I was using the then-brand-new Wordpress, Internet Explorer_6 was the most common web browser, CSS wasn’t very good, the Safari browser had just made its first release, smartphones were yet to be invented, and everyone used low-resolution CRT screens. The original design did use CSS instead of tables, thankfully, but it was very narrow and left a lot up to the user agent (notably font choice and size). These days you can do much better. Even HTML has moved on, with
