This is yet another opportunity Novell lost while it was chasing clouds and mono.

I stumbled across another missed opportunity the other day, Gnome ODF support. Programs like Gnumeric don’t have good ODF support in Debian Lenny. Just think if all the effort Novell dumped into Mono had been put into ODF support for GNOME. Thanks, Miguel, for barking up the wrong tree and telling the world that OOXML was a wonderful “standard”.

All Microsoft compatibility efforts should come to a screeching halt over Novell’s demise. It’s clear that KDE’s Windows port, Gnome’s .NET work, GUI redesign by GIMP to make the program easier to use under Windows miserable single screen GUI, and all other Microsoft chasing are a damaging waste of time. “every line of code written to our standards is a small victory” says the Microsoft Jihad training manual.
