In fact Stallman’s Free Software movement was started only 8 years after Gates wrote that letter to hobbyists, which coincidentially was around when IBM decided to follow that trend started by this letter by making their software OCO, and that resulted in a customer backlash. Later they embarced open source and Linux.

Yep, to change this we need to get GNU/Linux PCs into major store chains, as that is where most of these people are. Even Mac would be good, as Windows desperately needs competition (even though I think even Vista and 7 aren’t bad).
