Microsoft spends billions of dollars portraying themselves as a friend and benefactor, unleashing your “unlimited potential” for example, and apologists often claim that Microsoft never sues anyone so the missunderstanding is common. Microsoft also worked through intermediaries, like SCO and Acacia.

Novel proves better than anyone else that Microsoft promisses are worthless. Notice how the company is still defending themselves against SCO and how Acacia sued them even after Novel made their infamous deal with Microsoft. It is particularly ironic that Novel employes so many Mono defenders because the company has been practically destroyed by Microsoft while other free software companies like Red Hat have grown and profited despite fighting.
