Chips_B_MalroyBach should have been fired back when MS became aware of the Xbox360 failures, or when MS set aside 1.25 Billion for repairs.  If you believe some of the posters at Mini MSFT, Bach and Ballmer where good friends, is why he stayed.  But prehaps, the decision was Ballmers, and Gates to keep cranking out faulty Xboxes and not the fault of Bach at all.Jun 02 02:13

Chips_B_MalroyGates (and his foundation) ownes 40 Billion dollars of MS stock, about 8% of the stock.  Ballmer is worth 14 billion currently, guessing its mostly MS stock as well.  So between Gates and Ballmer, they control between 10 to 11% of the stock.  Its no wonder the stockholders cannot get rid of Ballmer.  And then there are other major shareholders that started with Gates.  No telling where Allen is on this.Jun 02 02:17
cubezzzI think Paul Allen got rid of most/all of his sharesJun 02 02:18
Chips_B_MalroyStill, the perception of failure of Ballmer is complete now that Apple has surpassed MS worth, and HP has bought Palm WebOS as a tablet OS.Jun 02 02:19
Chips_B_MalroyApple has surpassing MS worth has been a wake up call to stockholders that MS is declining as an investment.  This is what forced Ballmer to fire (ok, they resigned) these two.Jun 02 02:21
Chips_B_MalroyNot to mention, that while courier and slate are MS failures, Ipad is selling and Android is gaining in leaps and bounds.Jun 02 02:22

Chips_B_MalroyThe MS press bloggers always spin it that the Ipad will cannabalise Mac computer sales, but I don't see it that way.  As the price is differnet and the function too.  What I see is its more attractive to windows users to escape the malware problems, and priced to compete with $500 windows laptops as well.Jun 02 03:17

Chips_B_MalroyHere is the difference between Jobs and the Woz:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Wozniak  "In 1980, Apple went public and made Jobs and Wozniak multimillionaires. However, Jobs had refused to allow some employees of Apple to receive stock options, so Wozniak decided to share some of his founder stock with the rest of the team by either giving them away for free or at a heavily discounted price. schestowitzYesterday Steve Ballmer beheaded his president of entertainment and devices, 22-year veteran Microsoftie Robbie Bach...Jun 02 06:33
schestowitzBach got the boot because Microsoft is taking it in the assets in the mobile space, and the Redmond Behemoth has (belatedly) realized that's where its future lies.Jun 02 06:33
schestowitzYes, the Windows Mobile OS sucks harder than an asthmatic at an oxygen bar, but I'm not entirely convinced that's Bach's fault. An interface that's barely tolerable from 18 inches away with a full keyboard and mouse is completely useless on a 2- or 3-inch screen and a teensy keypad. And yet for years Microsoft has insisted on bringing theJun 02 06:33
schestowitzWindows to Windows Mobile.Jun 02 06:33
schestowitzWhose vision was that? It wasn't Bach's. Windows on every device? Windows to control your phones and your TVs and the lights in your house? Windows in your car? That belongs to our favorite semi-retired billionaire, the churros-munching, hurricane-battlin' Billy Gates.Jun 02 06:33
schestowitzSo with Bach gone, Steve Ballmer is taking over Microsoft's mobile operations. That's a little like saying, "Son, you crashed the car, so I'm going to hand the car keys to this gorilla and let him drive for a while." ...Jun 02 06:33

schestowitzPop quiz: What's the biggest Microsoft disaster of all time? Sorry, time's up. The correct answer is Windows Vista. Seven years in the making, and a complete and utter cluster-zune.Jun 02 06:34
schestowitzYet Windows and Office are still the cash cows...They're not the future, though. The future lives in mobile devices and the cloud. That's now in the hands of Ballmer.Jun 02 06:34
schestowitzInfoWorld's Ted Samson says this is Microsoft's way of telling the world it's serious about mobile. I think this is their way of telling shareholders it's time to sell.Jun 02 06:34
schestowitz[...]Jun 02 06:34
schestowitzSo Microsoft axing one of its captains may look like it's taking its troubles seriously, but it isn't going to solve the problem. Microsoft's biggest problem is the big, bald sweaty guy at the top. You want to see real change in Redmond, that's where it has to happen.Jun 02 06:34
