DaemonFCABIword can fail to import ODF correctlyDec 31 07:09
DaemonFCit does alright with its own file formats and old MS OfficeDec 31 07:10
gnufreexWho cares. I use Emacs and nano. And Gedit.Dec 31 07:10
DaemonFCthe biggest problem with ODF is that it's too tied to OOoDec 31 07:11
DaemonFCalmost every other office suite complains that it's difficult to implement because of thatDec 31 07:11
*amarsh04 wonders if is possible to configure a kernel/initrd and emacs to have a kernel with init=emacs working (-:Dec 31 07:11
gnufreexSun took a page from Microsoft's book, maybe.Dec 31 07:12
DaemonFCKoffice was the best ODF support outside of OOo last time I lookedDec 31 07:12
DaemonFCit supported like 88% of itDec 31 07:12
DaemonFCAbiword was like 60% or somethingDec 31 07:12
DaemonFCthat's the problem with office formats, they're designed around one particular suite's internal layout and nothing else can get it quite rightDec 31 07:13
gnufreexI think not. I think it is Microsoft problem.Dec 31 07:14
gnufreexAnd OOO is clone of MSODec 31 07:14
gnufreexso it cloned problemDec 31 07:14
DaemonFCno, they're just the two biggest examplesDec 31 07:14
gnufreexIs there more examples?Dec 31 07:14
DaemonFCif you look at Softmaker and old Staroffice formats, you see they're no differentDec 31 07:14
DaemonFCnobody else has bothered to implement them and that's the only reason you don't hear complaintsDec 31 07:15
gnufreexI know that OOO can get docx virus because cloned MSO too good.Dec 31 07:15

gnufreexI think they cloned MS from start.Dec 31 07:18
gnufreexBut not sureDec 31 07:18
DaemonFCI needed a decent word proessor for school and it was $20 for that or hundreds for MSDec 31 07:18
gnufreexThat was probably the reason why Sun picked them.Dec 31 07:19
DaemonFCguess what my allowance money went for :)Dec 31 07:19
DaemonFC*processorDec 31 07:19
DaemonFCit had MS file format support, so yeah, easy transitionDec 31 07:19
DaemonFCit was cheaper to by the company that made Star than to try to purchase MS Office licenses by seatDec 31 07:20
