sebsebsebWhat you been up to?May 21 08:40
schestowitz"[PJ: Good for Google and shame on the newspapers for ruining everything. Go to the link and search for Caldera v. Microsoft and pick 1998 on the chart. Look what these newspapers want to charge you to read an article that didn't cost even half that if anything at all at the time. Deseret News wants $2.95 to read one single article. Imagine you are some not exactly rich researcher and you are trying to find out what happened to May 21 08:57
schestowitzwrite a book. You can't afford to do it. And the Chicago Tribune wants $3.95 for its article, which you can read for 90 days max, or amazingly enough $359.95 for a year's pass to read anything for 90 days. They call it Pay-per-View. And Google did the digitization for them.]"May 21 08:57

abeNd-orgwell, are there any of the popular browsers on win/lin/mac that charge? only the mobile platforms charge for some of the browsers, and at that on android/webos (not even sure if someone bothered to port other browsers to winmob, and i remember opera being free on bb/palmos)May 21 18:35
schestowitzSome of out client's servers (my company in London) appear to lack commonly used binaries such as lsof, logrotate, and syslog, which makes them counter-intuitive to work with (depending on where one comes from). May 21 19:45
schestowitzVERY annoyingMay 21 19:45
schestowitzJust spent over an hour on thisMay 21 19:45
schestowitzsyslog is restarted with the command '/etc/init.d/syslog reload' and the script /work/scripts/voip/syslogd.pl is apparently out of date, so it oughtn't be used. May 21 19:45
*sebsebseb has quit (Ping timeout: 246 seconds)May 21 19:45
schestowitzI had to type in 'ps aux | grep syslog' to see if syslogd is active and see if several log files in /var/log/ are actually being written to (in doubt). May 21 19:45
schestowitzWhat a fragmentation May 21 19:46

schestowitzInc. some active windowsMay 21 19:54
schestowitzAnd IRC logs have missing bits I have to fill in from backupMay 21 19:54
schestowitzSo each downtime -- however short -- can cost me in lost work and ~20 minutes lost time to recuperateMay 21 19:55
schestowitzSame if I have to restart KDEMay 21 19:55
schestowitzWhich i may have to do after 2 months because of the ugly notification balloons I get following a plasma-desktop crashMay 21 19:56
