schestowitz"Publishers are the constriction point for public knowledge and they have often gotten things wrong by self interest and incompetence. In the past, publication has been limited by physical costs of printing. Film patents and costs brought further centralization as did broadcast spectrum monopolies. If the internet can bring more publishers back into public notice people more deserving of recognition will gain and wealth will Oct 07 08:08

schestowitzI wonder, why there are mixed sentiments for Jobs departure. When someone dies even the worst people refrain from saying bad things about the dead. There is definitely something wrong that even the most sensitive humans are finding it hard to mourn. Yes, there is sorrow, but not the same sentiments. Which says a lot: changing a few industries doesn't matter as much it does to value the human value which is freedom and choices.Oct 07 08:38
schestowitz Jobs/Apple was against both. I agree with Roy. I think eBooks have changed the world. Apple has not, Apple has only created a toy for the few. People who think Jobs changed the world must look at more mature industries such as food, drinks, clothing, automobile (European and not American). These are the industries which are offering options, keeping us free.Oct 07 08:38
schestowitzBTW, it was aeroplanes which changed the world as even the most ordinary human can fly in the air. Nope, sir, Apple didn't even create a dent in the world (beyond iFans), let alone the Universe. Its all media hype. It will fizzle as media will get no eyeballs by tracking Apple anymore. Media is out of jobs.Oct 07 08:38

schestowitzThere is this implicit "tact" thing or "norm" in society which says we must not criticise the dead because 1) they cannot defend themselves  and 2) living family members might be offended. My heart goes out to Jobs' relatives, whose fault this was not (let alone Jobs' behaviour) and they must be in deep emotional pain sorrow. Jobs died too early, in my dad's age.Oct 07 08:46
schestowitzBut as I keep reminding people, Jobs received the best medical treatment and he probably never suffered so much from his illness (painkillers and other anesthetic pain suppressors) compered to people who were poor and died silently. in extreme pain.Oct 07 08:46
schestowitzIn the capitalist/corporate press we are told we must worship money, not value. I find it particularly sad that we are indoctrinated to judge people's achievements by the wrong criteria.Oct 07 08:46
