DaemonFCopen sourcing something that failed usually doesn't helpDec 10 03:19

DaemonFCAndroid has a lot of problemsDec 10 03:21
sebsebsebsuch as?Dec 10 03:21
DaemonFCmost of which are caused by downstream vendorsDec 10 03:21
DaemonFCwell, things like Carrier IQ for one Dec 10 03:21
DaemonFCit uses a lot of proprietary firmware that isn't redistributable for many of the models of phones and tablets it runs onDec 10 03:22
DaemonFCa lot of the stuff Google puts in it is not open sourceDec 10 03:22
DaemonFCthere have been at least two releases with no source code available other than the Linux kernel which is GPL licensedDec 10 03:23
DaemonFCGoogle used stolen ISO demo code for their stagefright AAC codecDec 10 03:23

DaemonFCanyone else that uses it is in troubleDec 10 03:24
DaemonFCeven though it claims to be open source, it is stolen sourceDec 10 03:24

DaemonFCthey are worse, but not by muchDec 10 03:25
sebsebsebAndroid is quite commerical yeahDec 10 03:26
DaemonFCwhat we do need is something that is legitimately free and open, at least as much as a typical Linux distributionDec 10 03:26
DaemonFCsomething that can be used as a firmware replacement for things that come with Windows CE, iOS, or AndroidDec 10 03:26
DaemonFCif WebOS becomes that, I'll be happyDec 10 03:27
DaemonFCbut I'm not holding my breathDec 10 03:27
DaemonFCdevice makers do some really nasty thingsDec 10 03:27
DaemonFCit would be an uphill battle just to get a firmware replacement that runs on a few popular phones and tabletsDec 10 03:28
sebsebsebwell they are about making money tehse comapniesDec 10 03:28
sebsebseband they use open source stufff such as Android to save moneyDec 10 03:28
sebsebsebsimple as that reallyDec 10 03:28
DaemonFCa lot of them are paying Microsoft to use AndroidDec 10 03:30

sebsebsebwell yeah trueDec 10 03:31
sebsebsebI guessDec 10 03:31
DaemonFCif the licensing fees to use Android are the same as to use Windows Phone, they are simply paying Microsoft to go awayDec 10 03:31
