schestowitzany progress with xfs?Jan 12 02:27
XFaCEschestowitz: It's called parallel adoption.Jan 12 02:28

DaemonFCaccording to Dave Chinner....Jan 12 02:28

DaemonFCbetween 2.6.35-and 2.6.38, you can enable it with the delaylog mount optionJan 12 02:30
XFaCEhow exactly does the kernel enable it by default?Jan 12 02:30
XFaCEDoes every kernel in the Linux 3.x do this, regardless of distro?Jan 12 02:30
DaemonFCyou don't have to do anything since 2.6.39, the kernel assumes delaylog unless you mount with nodelaylogJan 12 02:31
DaemonFCthe mount options that can speed it up even more are logbufs=8 and logbsize=256kJan 12 02:32
DaemonFCbut by making buffers that large, you risk some data loss if it crashesJan 12 02:32
DaemonFCso if you don't want the risk, just mount it with defaultsJan 12 02:32
DaemonFCbecause it basically would be queuing up 2 MB worth of logging before committing it to the diskJan 12 02:33
XFaCEboth options increase the risk?Jan 12 02:33
DaemonFCI am unsure what the defaults are right nowJan 12 02:33
DaemonFCbut they are less than thatJan 12 02:33
DaemonFCif you have a UPS or are on a laptop, you can usually get away with nobarrier as wellJan 12 02:34
DaemonFCthat will speed it up quite a lot, but if it crashes or goes down unexpectedly, you could lose everythingJan 12 02:34

schestowitzAt the moment, a more reliable way of comparing two triangulated surfaces is required. I spent some time searching around the Web to see if someone made a robust and accurate way of doing this, rather than ad hoc methods that I wrote on my own. The triangles already are reduced for analogous regions to overlap, but comparing on this basis (in 3D) need some cunning tricks. MathWorks' file exchange hardly provide anything to that effect.Jan 12 12:38

formic_fewt - are you a packager for some distro?Jan 12 23:35
DaemonFCturns out that nothing was even fragmented enough for it to even bother with and it just ended up taking the time to scan the partitionJan 12 23:35
DaemonFCI'm thinking e4defrag was put there just so someone could convince their boss the system needed downtime so they could go take a longer smoke breakJan 12 23:36
DaemonFCin all seriousness, your file system would need to be pretty damned full before fragmentation started becoming a problemJan 12 23:36
DaemonFC< 10% free space is generally what you'll hear, that's probably about rightJan 12 23:37
DaemonFC"Konqueror is the only usable open-source web browser available for Linux now that Seamonkey and Firefox - and the rest of the Gecko-based browsers - have become so CPU-hugging, so overall slow and so full of memory leaks that they are not even worth trying."Jan 12 23:37
DaemonFCthat's not biased or subjective now is it?Jan 12 23:38
DaemonFCHave they even tried Rekonq?Jan 12 23:38

DaemonFCI'm not sure why Kubuntu removed it thoughJan 12 23:40
fewt@DaemonFC fragmentation depends on workload and current utilization.  There's a pretty good article on it at kernelnewbies.Jan 12 23:40
DaemonFCit does make an OK backup browser, some people will like it better as a file manager than DolphinJan 12 23:40
DaemonFCand most of it is shared anywayJan 12 23:40
DaemonFCso Konqueror itself takes only about 4 MB of disk spaceJan 12 23:40
DaemonFCthe idea of a web browser as part of the shell has never been something I was comfortable withJan 12 23:41
DaemonFCI remember them announcing Konqueror and thinking "Oh great, Internet Explorer for KDE"Jan 12 23:41
