schestowitz    Perhaps part of the real problem with SELinux is that policies must be written in the equivalent of assembly language.Jun 27 06:04
schestowitzThis has come up before. It is certainly possible to imagine a more coarse-grained syntax for policy writing. The difficulty I see in creating such a language is twofold; first, it could create a false sense of security. For exaple, if this higher-level language only restricts accesses to files, but allows signals to any other domain, that could be exploited fairly easily. The other issue is making it integrate nicely with Jun 27 06:04
schestowitzthe existing language; if you e.g. take the approach of autogenerating type names for files, this would look very ugly for those of us writing in the "low level" language. Jun 27 06:04

schestowitzOh it's a little worse than that. People who use Windows need flash drives because their computers and network storage are completely unreliable. When I worked at Entergy Operations, staff kept their current work on FLOPPY disks because they did not trust other storage media and NT did not yet work with USB devices and nothing else was considered safe. That's a Fortune 100 company and a big Microsoft partner that spent plentyJun 27 06:19
schestowitzon staff software and hardware. The network storage was routinely deleted and work often was not found on the backups if the backup had worked at all. Stuff even disappeared mysteriously from workstations. I heard similar horror stories about the Red Cross headquarters when they set up for a hurricane response. schestowitzFrom our comfortable GNU perspective it is difficult to imagine how crappy a Windows network really is. It's the same no matter how much money you throw at it or who you are. In the normal world of free software, the user is protected from external threats and storage is reliable.Jun 27 06:19
