schestowitz_bed2VGA cables (or VGA-to-VGA standard connectors) are far more expensive than I realised, maybe 10% the cost of some brand new monitors. I need to buy at least 1, as one cable of mine gives a blurry image and another has poor attenuation for one colour (wire wear). It turns out that even just 1.8 meter cords are not as cheap as one might expect; Argos sells those for 7 pounds at the very least, Clas Olson for 9 pounds, and Oct 09 04:47
schestowitz_bed2Maplin for 10 pounds (starting price, for the very basic type, no special brand). I still have an unused (new) DVI-to-DVI cable, but it's virtually of no use with my hardware. VGA is still the de facto standard on laptops and new monitors, projectors, etc.Oct 09 04:47
qu1j0t3schestowitz_bed2: that's ridiculousOct 09 04:49

schestowitz_bed2I think shops exploit the fact that people are *willing* to pay this muchOct 09 05:08
schestowitz_bed2Not that the supplier charges as muchOct 09 05:08
schestowitz_bed2They can't be so expensive to manufacture, it's a mass production item for decades nowOct 09 05:09
schestowitz_bed2and it hardly evolved, no patents would be valid on itOct 09 05:09
schestowitz_bed2Recently did some painting of the walls here, making it all look nice and shiny. I've added acetone to the to-buy list, it's needed alongside turpentine. I'm having second thoughts about buying sandpaper because I just experimented on a couple of walls with wet paper towel to blur the different/gap between new coat of paint and the original colour of the wall. Oct 09 05:19
schestowitz_bed2It really helps smoothen the texture and quickly restores the wall's colour such that it looks new, hopefully as good as "mint condition".Oct 09 05:19
