schestowitz_bed2> Hi Roy,Oct 20 04:02
schestowitz_bed2>Oct 20 04:02
schestowitz_bed2> I sent out an email a while back about an impending re-IP of various serversOct 20 04:02
schestowitz_bed2> including techrights. I don't think there's anything you should have to doOct 20 04:02
schestowitz_bed2> because I'll change DNS etc. but just in case you have anything tied to theOct 20 04:02
schestowitz_bed2> current external IP address of techrights (216.105.40.123) it will need to beOct 20 04:02
schestowitz_bed2> updated.  I'll let you know what the new IP address is going to be. The re-IPOct 20 04:02
schestowitz_bed2> will likely happen either later tonight (PDT) or sometime tomorrow. We'reOct 20 04:02
schestowitz_bed2> actually migrating everything over to better bandwidth with redundant uplinksOct 20 04:02
schestowitz_bed2> and more tier-1 backbone peers.Oct 20 04:02
schestowitz_bed2That's fantastic. Thanks for the headsup!Oct 20 04:02

schestowitz_bed2Not just for experimentation. You're free to edit the site any time you want, I trust you a lot. schestowitz_bed2Imagine that Apple built iMessage such that it is end-to-end secure. Actually don't need to imagine it, because that's what they did. But how do you know this? Because the FBI and local law enforcement have tried to subpoena Apple to intercepting the messages and were rebuffed. If Apple could have easily intercepted the messages, the court would have ordered them to do it, but Apple has provided ample evidence that they cannotOct 24 08:01
schestowitz_bed2without undue duress (which is true: iMessages would no longer be relatively difficult for Apple's own employees to intercept, costing Apple a substantial benefit in the marketplace). Too bad for you, law enforcement.Oct 24 08:01
schestowitz_bed2But wait! You say, what about the NSA and Prism? Couldn't they have compelled Apple to act?Oct 24 08:01
schestowitz_bed2First of all, the FISA court doesn't have any more subpoena powers than any other court. If a federal court has found Apple unable to comply, then that's it. But there's additional evidence to indicate that that Apple has not supplied NSA with decrypted iMessages by altering their servers:Oct 24 08:01
schestowitz_bed2For if Apple had re-architected their iMessage backend to comply with the FISA court's subpoena, then they would not have grounds to reject subpoenas from all the other courts anymore. They would be compelled to comply with any new subpoena that came across their doorstep, since they would now have a way to do so. The FISA court does not mandate that clients operate in absolute secrecy, only surrounding the case at hand.Oct 24 08:01
schestowitz_bed2"Oct 24 08:01

MERGE
schestowitz_bed2> Hi Roy,Oct 20 04:02
schestowitz_bed2>Oct 20 04:02
schestowitz_bed2> I sent out an email a while back about an impending re-IP of various serversOct 20 04:02
schestowitz_bed2> including techrights.
Thanks for the headsup!Oct 20 04:02

schestowitz_bed2Imagine that Apple built iMessage such that it is end-to-end secure.
