schestowitz_bed2Thanks so much for checking this for me. Rianne's sister in Singapore and I have been trying to check this for a long time; all I ever found were those flights going through Dubai, Frankfurt, or Munich. There was also an Air France option. But never did I see a direct flight without even a layover. The flights at cheaper periods of the year cost just under 500 pounds (return, per person), so that would be a big saver. Can you look at the source code for Google Play, the tool that Google uses to see what software Android users use? Can you verify its security? Nope. What else is it doing? How is it that Google Play isn't considered malware given what Google openly admits it does?Oct 27 17:52

So it does everything possible to avoid US troop casualties. That in itself is not a bad thing; generals are supposed to keep casualties down when consistent with other requirements. (The awareness that the public doesn't like casualties might also discourage some Oct 27 20:38

If the group is really Al Qa'ida, the pilots face little danger in their planes moving at hundreds of miles an hour. If it is actually a wedding party, the pilots are moving too fast to note the difference. Only people on the ground canOct 27 20:38

schestowitz_bedThanks for the information about DDG re Amazon. To be honest I can't help but be suspicious of the conclusion to continue using Google. schestowitz_beddue to lack of resources or because they couldn't say anything about it doesn't hold water. Levinson couldn't explicitly say he had received a FISC or NSL but he still hit the media and talked about how he was shutting Lavabit down and suing the Government. I'm curious why you think Google has yet to reach some sort of critical user mass that they can do something to battle the Secret State through legal means. The whole write Oct 30 01:31
schestowitz_bedup I find confusing as you start out with the obvious truth that no US Internet business can be trusted but then you somehow conclude that Google should be used if any of them. I just don't see why it "might as well" be Google. Microsoft ads and AWS aside, DDG's system is not designed to give you an unchangeable identity to which everything you do on the Internet is tied to ala Google or Facebook ID.Oct 30 01:31
schestowitz_bedKnowing DDG is partially hosted on an AWS server in Virginia certainly gives me pause but it in no way makes me think I "may as well" go back to Google. That's a bizarre conclusion to an otherwise enlightening write up.Oct 30 01:31
schestowitz_bedIf we say no US business can be trusted (due to NSL or FISC) then we must be consistent, or otherwise clear and concise why a certain business should be an exception to the rule. It's unclear to me why many are faulting DDG but extoll the virtues of say Riseup or another US-based service. They're all subject to the same "we just have to trust them" standard, which is the same for VPNs as well I might add.Oct 30 01:31

Rianne's sister in Singapore and I have been trying to check this for a long time; all I ever found were those flights going through Dubai, Frankfurt, or Munich. There was also an Air France option. (The awareness that the public doesn't like casualties might also discourage some Oct 27 20:37

schestowitz_bedThanks for the information about DDG re Amazon. To be honest I can't help but be suspicious of the conclusion to continue using Google. I understand they're the giant that would seemingly have enough resources to fight the fight, but they haven't and they will not. Lavabit founder Ladar Levinson has done more to fight national security letters than all the giant tech companies combined so the idea that DDG would just roll over Oct 30 01:31

schestowitz_beddue to lack of resources or because they couldn't say anything about it doesn't hold water.
Some time back they started AOSP, but as soon as it got traction, they've been working very hard to replace as much of the open source code with closed source equivalents and leaving the FOSS parts to bit rot. The calendar, camera, email, chat and with Kit Kat even the home screen have gotten this treatment. These are just a few examples. (AwayNov 02 20:50
