schestowitz>> OK, I saw there was a backup script for the DB (maybe homedir also), soNov 25 16:16

schestowitz>> /var/www/apache just for testing... but never the DB.Nov 25 16:16
schestowitzHi Susan, I know your time is limited, so I'll keep it concise. From what I can gather, about 8 GB in homedir is not essential in any way to the site (I will back it up offline), the stuff in /var/www is about 2 GB of hosted staff and several gigs of apache backup (maybe 6 GB). Is that correct? Or am I missing something. I also need to restore stuff like cron jobs, I can see what they're linked to.Nov 25 16:16
schestowitz> Yes, there are several backups, I think it runs every 6 hours or something.  Nov 25 16:16
schestowitz> But I don't keep too many around.Nov 25 16:16
schestowitzThat's good. As long as backups are detached (external drive), maybe some are outside the house (maybe a relative's computer in case of fire). :-)Nov 25 16:16
schestowitz> Why don't you pull one (or more) of those backups down somewhere and just for Nov 25 16:16
schestowitz> shits and grins, see if you can import it into a testbed and see if they work.  Nov 25 16:16
schestowitz> But with drupal, we really need to set everything as close to default as Nov 25 16:16
schestowitz> possible, then put it in maintenence mode, and make a clean dump.   Nov 25 16:16
schestowitzYes, I plan to try it next week on Sunday, maybe when rianne is out at church. That's a quiet time when I typically experiment with migrations or IRC logs...Nov 25 16:16
schestowitz> Last night was a warning that something hardware is going in the server.  I Nov 25 16:16
schestowitz> just waited for it to cool off and it started back up.  I do have a spare mobo Nov 25 16:16
schestowitz> and ps for it, which is the two main suspects....  But I'd go ahead and get my Nov 25 16:16
schestowitz> data if it was me.  I do have a couple last questions:Nov 25 16:16
schestowitz> Nov 25 16:17
schestowitz> can you keep the images around for all the articles I've written and stored Nov 25 16:17
schestowitz> the pix on tm?  I suppose I need to make other arrangements from now on tho?Nov 25 16:17
schestowitzYes, I assume they're all under /var/www/apache* and nothing is off-site like fixed IP address or AWS? I will need to keep an eye on error_log to see if something linked is returning 404... don't worry, I will do testing and staging for weeks before making it final.Nov 25 16:17
schestowitz> And one other... I may need to adjust the ad dates a time or two before it's Nov 25 16:17
schestowitz> all said and done.  I don't anyone to get shorted.  but most are fixing to run Nov 25 16:17
schestowitz> out.Nov 25 16:17
schestowitzI am leaving all the ads in tact until you tell me otherwise. :-)Nov 25 16:17
schestowitz Nov 25 16:17
schestowitz> Oh, hey, could you please continue to link to my stuff at ostatic (unless Nov 25 16:17
schestowitz> you've already posted of my news already or something...)?  Nov 25 16:17
schestowitzYes, I am hooked on OStatic via RSS. Will you also do DW guest articles? I don't have their Monday newsletter on RSS...Nov 25 16:17
schestowitz> But you have drupal experience right?  You can probably handle the move on Nov 25 16:17
schestowitz> your own.   I usually take screenshots to document how I have the site setup Nov 25 16:17
schestowitz> before the dump, especially of the block and module administrations.  But let Nov 25 16:17
schestowitz> me know if you need help or something and keep me posted I guess.Nov 25 16:17
schestowitzI want to take screenshots before upgrades, at least for historical records. I kept Techrights with the same theme for over 7 years... much like Groklaw. They're visual identities, not smart to replace. If I upgrade to Drupal 7/8 I will try to replicate the theme to the extent possible.Nov 25 16:17
schestowitzSince we have two servers, the "before" and "after", comparing new and old can be done easily, even in tandem. I'll need to research blocks and extensions too.Nov 25 16:17
schestowitzI don't have a lot of Drupal experience, I mostly come from the WordPress camp.Nov 25 16:17

schestowitz> My girlfriend even saw the footprints in the sand.  Given the timing andNov 25 17:16
schestowitz> location, one may have gotten our cat that disappeared this summer.Nov 25 17:16
schestowitzThe cat would have been adopted by someone if you don't have abundance of them (straying in the streets). My dad's dog is a lost dog. They found him without a tag.Nov 25 17:16
schestowitz> How is the Tuxmachines migration going?Nov 25 17:16
