What is Going on at VMware?

Posted in GNU/Linux, Microsoft, Virtualisation, VMware, Windows at 2:29 am by Dr. Roy Schestowitz

Summary: New VMware management makes irrational decisions, has Microsoft qualifications

“VMware turned into my enemy,” tells us a former employee of the company. According to him, it all happened “after a clueless manager was allowed to get [him] fired.” According to our source, this manager only had one qualification, an MSCE.

This may be interesting because of EMC’s intervention. It overthrew the old management and installed Microsoft instead.

“According to our source, this manager only had one qualification, an MSCE.”Tucci threw VMware’s management out and 3-4 Microsoft executives are now running the company (here is the latest addition, Mark Lucovsky), whose top technical staff too was ousted or escaped. Microsoft’s hand in this is a possibility.

Regarding that new manager, we learn that “he was a bully manager that everybody was afraid of except me. Unfortunately nobody else would go with me to HR to complain.”

“VMWare brings back the dark ages… Indentured servitude, cronyism, draconian management,” says one review among other pages with equally unnerving testimonials. There is clearly something rotten there.

Some people resort to class action lawsuits. “When the economy improves,” says our source, “there will be an exodus from VMware in my opinion.”

VMware is still a member in the Linux Foundation, but as we have shown before, they do a lot to support Microsoft's ambitions these days.

By abandoning OpenSource.com and OpenOffice.org/LibreOffice IBM sends out a clear signal that it doesn’t understand or simply does not care about the community of Free software users; its siege against the FSF and other institutions never ended and today we look at who’s being laid off or shown the door (the work environment is intentionally being made worse)

This month’s numbers from StatCounter are good for GNU/Linux (including ChromeOS, which technically has both GNU and Linux); the firm assesses logs from 3 million sites and shows Windows down to 66% in desktops/laptops (a decade ago it was above 90%) with modest growth for GNU/Linux, which is at an all-time high, even if one does not count ChromeOS that isn’t freedom- or privacy-respecting
