Bonum Certa Men Certa

The European Buzzwords Office

Summary: Today's EPO is run by truly incompetent people and this week's so-called 'event' (lineup of webchats) is proof of it; they only care about buzzwords, not science (whilst attempting to justify illegal patents and vilify logic/common sense)

THE LATEST EPO lobbying stunt seeks to legitimise software patents in Europe using buzzwords that António Campinos uses a lot without even understanding them. Today's opening paragraph (based on the XML timestamp they already wrote about it on the first day of the 'event', i.e. yesterday) is a big, extensive salad of buzzwords, starting with (warning: epo.org link) "European Patent Office (EPO) conference "The role of patents in an AI driven world" came to a conclusion today. The two-day online event provided a platform to discuss artificial intelligence (AI), its impact on intellectual property (IP), and the potential benefits it could bring to patent offices." They go on and introduce more buzzwords and propaganda terms/acronyms such as "Fourth Industrial Revolution" (4IR).

"They go on and introduce more buzzwords and propaganda terms/acronyms such as "Fourth Industrial Revolution" (4IR)."Speaking of 4IR, it's another mindless set of buzzwords/buzzphrase. Further down there's some junk 'science' from Yann Ménière (Benoît Battistelli's pick), which boils down to marketing and faked statistics (retroactively classifying things based on a buzzword). As I said in the video, which was made on the spot, none of the stuff there means anything; it's a bunch of litigation fanatics stroking each other's egos using words like "innovation", seeking to justify what they do for a living (without actually doing anything concrete).

Get better soon, EPO. Wear a mask, Mr. Campinos. It's easier than tying shoelaces.
