schestowitzgoing to take down the DB of TM for a bit just to scan the DB for any issuesApr 05 04:17
schestowitzno issues found. I was trying to tackle some performance issues.Apr 05 04:25
Techrights-secTHere must be some tuning it could benefit from.  (guessing)Apr 05 04:26
Techrights-sec]Apr 05 04:26
schestowitzssh on the pi has been made very slow, to the point of timing out sometimes and spoiling cron workload. what needs to be changed?Apr 05 04:27
schestowitz./upload_ipfs.sh Apr 05 04:29
schestowitzConnection closed by 23.161.112.116 port 22Apr 05 04:29
schestowitzlost connectionApr 05 04:29
Techrights-secI am not sure I am getting ready to look into that today.Apr 05 04:31
Techrights-secIt is just the initial connection which is slow to get going.Apr 05 04:31
Techrights-secI am suspecting the prioritization of the unevaluated connection onApr 05 04:31
Techrights-secport 22 is the matter.  But then that makes me wonder about Gemini's Apr 05 04:31
Techrights-secperformance.  But gemini seems responsiveApr 05 04:31
Techrights-secThe outgoing connections from the RPi seem to be slow to establish.Apr 05 04:31
Techrights-secThat makes DNS difficult.  I need to fix that somehow.  tc is still quite Apr 05 04:31
Techrights-secnew to me.Apr 05 04:31
Techrights-sec]Apr 05 04:32
schestowitzI seem to be seeing slow connection (initial) both in and out, i.e. when pushing files to the pi and from the pi. I am quite sure that started happening days ago when we made the changes, but I don't know how exactly that works.Apr 05 04:32
Techrights-secDoes it happen all the time or just while IPFS is running?Apr 05 04:33
schestowitzIPFS is always running, so I never checked without itApr 05 04:33
Techrights-secCan you pause it temporarily and check?Apr 05 04:34
schestowitzI think you found the culprit, as indeed that's resolved when ipfs is down. It seemed to also cause hangups for the IRC bot running on the pi.Apr 05 04:37
Techrights-secOutgoing from the RPi seem fast at this particular moment.Apr 05 04:38
Techrights-secI'm looking into what needs to be modified in tc but it may take Apr 05 04:41
Techrights-seca day or two to find the proper modifications.Apr 05 04:41
schestowitzthat's OK, in the meantime I just double-check the files get copies acrossApr 05 04:41

Techrights-secI've made some adjustments in tc-shaper-04.sh but will still continue                                                        Apr 05 07:27
Techrights-secto look into the matterApr 05 07:27
Techrights-secHow are the tweaks from -04 working?Apr 05 07:27
schestowitzI have just run itApr 05 07:32
schestowitzI have not had a chance to test much, but I do seem to be seeing very high bw usage on ipfs and it even impacts my video upload speeds a great dealApr 05 11:28
Techrights-secOk, i've lowered the cap for IPFS Apr 05 11:55

schestowitzit says you made a further change a minute ago, so I've copied and run that againApr 05 11:59
Techrights-secThere may also be some DNS problems outside of all this, not here but outApr 05 12:16
Techrights-secon the general net.  Apr 05 12:16
schestowitzah, that might explain some stuff I've noticedApr 05 12:16
Techrights-secIt used to be possible to get news on such problems but no sites really Apr 05 12:35
Techrights-seccover that any more.  My guess is in addition to the general news decline,Apr 05 12:35
Techrights-secas most state actors become involved in messing things up, the fewApr 05 12:35
Techrights-secthat know give such events less coverage.  Apr 05 12:35
schestowitzthanks for the headsup on this. i've just cleaned my rss feed (slow news). to outline to myself: on the pi we need 4 services: ipfs, gemini, ssh... irc to a degree... and we need it not to take up all the bw at home. That's the goal. at the moment it feels OK and later I need to check download speeds, upload, ssh timeouts, ipfs, gemini etc.Apr 05 13:03
