Why do we say that? [01:45] schestowitz[TR2] Sales of power continue to shrink. Especially scale out AIX and OS/400 Yep Linux on intel continues to dominate. Enterprise Power installs are stable due to Powers big memory and multiple threads. The issue with Enterprise is its not growing, thus its an appliance go to market model (eg you only replace it when it breaks) [01:45] schestowitz[TR2] P12 may have a road map, but so did the Ford Edsel. Right now sales of P11 are not growing, but rather sinking, which begs to ask why would IBM invest in P12. [01:45] schestowitz[TR2] The P11 announcement centered on RAS improvements vs performance improvements. This is IBM conceding the market to Intel performance [01:45] schestowitz[TR2] Openshift running on top of power means nothing if your ISV partner base doesnt adopt it. [01:45] schestowitz[TR2] Finally IBM farming the existing shrinking install base via an IP strategy is the answer to monetizing an active but shrinking install base. Its not that Power doesnt make money, but it is Power doesnt make enough to justify the P12 investment. IBM wants to exit manufacturing, and an IP strategy seems to be the ticket especially if IBM throws in some sweeteners (eg 10 year GF type purchase deal for the enterprise side, [01:45] schestowitz[TR2] and a sharing of patents and cooperation on future IBM lab developments). That equates to 10k out of NA/Northern Europe, or 30k out of India and other low cost countries. Mix or match however you want, but for the past 3 years the CFO has executed this plan. As AI is maturing, I expect India headcount (repetitive labor) to be impacted harder, BUT that will be offset via AI development also being done in India. NA and Northern Euro [01:47] schestowitz[TR2] pean labor is not being back filled, but rather just being transferred to India. As such NA and Northern European labor will continue to shrink as time moves on" [01:49] *x-amarsh04 (~amarsh04@kpkpy434dfgzc.irc) has joined #techbytes ● Oct 03 [03:33] *x-amarsh04 has quit (connection closed) [03:34] *x-amarsh04 (~amarsh04@kpkpy434dfgzc.irc) has joined #techbytes [03:42] *x-amarsh04 has quit (connection closed) [03:43] *x-amarsh04 (~amarsh04@kpkpy434dfgzc.irc) has joined #techbytes [03:51] *x-amarsh04 has quit (connection closed) [03:52] *x-amarsh04 (~amarsh04@kpkpy434dfgzc.irc) has joined #techbytes ● Oct 03 [04:50] *x-amarsh04 has quit (Ping timeout: 2m30s) [04:51] *x-amarsh04 (~amarsh04@kpkpy434dfgzc.irc) has joined #techbytes ● Oct 03 [06:56] schestowitz[TR2] "DHH Is Way Worse Than I Thought" [06:56] schestowitz[TR2] x https://jakelazaroff.com/words/dhh-is-way-worse-than-i-thought/ [06:56] schestowitz[TR2] # politics [06:56] -TechBytesBot/#techbytes-DHH Is Way Worse Than I Thought | jakelazaroff.com ● Oct 03 [10:42] schestowitz[TR2]
[10:42] schestowitz[TR2][10:42] schestowitz[TR2]I have been writing about the ".well-known" directory a few times before. Recently, about attackers hiding webshells [1], and before that, about the purpose of the directory and why you should set up a "/.well-known/security.txt" file. But I noticed something else when I looked at today's logs on this web server. Sometimes you do not need a honeypot. Some attackers are noisy enough to be e [10:42] schestowitz[TR2] asily visible on a busy web server. This time, the attacker hit various URLs inside the ".well-known" directory. Here is a sample from the > 100 URLs hit: [...]

[10:42] schestowitz[TR2][10:42] schestowitz[TR2]On the design side, one of the most noticeable changes is the addition of rounded bottom window corners for Breeze-themed, borderless windows. Additionally, Plasma 6.5 introduces day/night switching for both global themes and wallpapers, as well as an option to prefer either light or dark variants of dynamic wallpapers.

[10:44] schestowitz[TR2][10:44] schestowitz[TR2]The 2.0 release resolves a large amount of technical debt and shifts the focus toward compatibility and easier upgrades. For users, that means less effort will be required to stay up to date. It also means the long-standing warning banner on the Immich website is finally gone.
