An honest opinion from a long time former employee who actually met the man on several occasions. What do all of the business leaders have in common? I would say its respect for the individual. [06:05] schestowitz[TR2] As folks said if you take care of your employees, they will take care of your customers. [06:05] schestowitz[TR2] Its just that easy. [06:05] schestowitz[TR2] Where did IBM stray from that path? I would say under Gerstner especially after the first three years under his leadership [06:05] schestowitz[TR2] 11 hours ago by Anonymous [06:05] schestowitz[TR2] | 2 reactions (+2/-0) | Reply [06:05] schestowitz[TR2] Post ID: @as+1m1pbc1cm [06:05] schestowitz[TR2] +3 [06:05] schestowitz[TR2] Ken Olson, founder of DEC, was light years ahead of Arvind in engineering talent and people skills. They DEEPLY LOVED IBM employees. During tough times they would have engineers NOT BE LAID off but build new plants, sweep floors, paint bldgs etc. Anything but layoffs as they knew first hand the devastation to the mind and health and families lay offs did. A handful of videos and a couple stand and delivers for example - dont make you an expert in enterprise level software that takes people years and years to become SMEs with. [07:20] schestowitz[TR2] IBMs thinking: just do these two level 3 Tech Seller classes, and once you pass your stand and deliver, youre ready to run a PoC. [07:20] schestowitz[TR2] Its a Fing joke and I feel terrible for all the people that IBM puts in front of customers who have no business giving a PoC. Im guessing they do this to make people leave. Theyll get a new thick resist to tackle bow, but never ask the basic question: how are we removing it downstream?, and what tools can actually handle it? [07:20] schestowitz[TR2] You have engineers whose very debatable success 1015 years ago are now making major technical and business decisions, while their favorite underlings just yes-man them instead of challenging anything. Theyre basically cosplaying as industry experts and business leaders, and constantly falling flat on their faces. How many projects have failed because some ridiculously basic issue popped up that anyone with a little logi [07:20] schestowitz[TR2] c could have seen coming a mile away? Its happening habitually in IBM Albany. And they just reshuffled and put in charge of a new project to lead to another eventual failure. Rinse and repeat.
